Shamli is a major centre of the Sugar and Jaggery in Western Uttar Pradesh, also commonly known as the Upper Doab region. The land of Shamli is very fertile which makes this place prosperous and developed.According to the 2011 census Shamli district has a population of 13,13,650.
In Dawpar yug Lord Krishana took the way of district at the time of going to Kurukshetra war from Hastinapur and in this way he sited under the trees of Barne in Hunuman Dham Shamli and took the sweet water from the old well.Hence was named after him as “Shyama vali" later “Shyama” and finally to be known as Shamli.

This district was carved out from Muzaffarnagar District on 28 September 2011 as Prabudh Nagar and renamed Shamli in July 2012.Shamli is a part of National Capital Region (NCR) and is located along the Delhi–Saharanpur (709B), Meerut-Karnal (709A) and Panipat-Khatima (709AD) Highways.
